TRACK 3 - THE RIDER'S
SHOULDERS
The rider's shoulders
have an enormous affect on the horse's way of going. One shoulder
lower, and the horse will be crooked. Round shouldered puts more
weight on the two front feet of the horse. This track includes ten
measurements, ten lessons, or ten tips & tricks for the rider's shoulders.
1. ROUND SHOULDERED.
Find
out why your coach wants you to look get your shoulders back - not only
does it LOOK terrible, it has an ENORMOUS affect on the horse. Even the
slightest 'round shouldered' position puts more weight on the two front
feet of the horse (on the forehand) - a considerable problem for all horse
riding sports.
2. CROOKED SHOULDERS
Is one shoulder in forward than the other? This is extremely
common, and has a huge affect on the horse's straightness.
3. ONE SHOULDER LOWER.
Which shoulder
do you carry your bag or back pack over? Nine times out of ten if
you carry your bag over your LEFT shoulder...then the LEFT shoulder is
higher...and worse, to support the 'leaning tower of pisa above' the RIGHT
foot will turn out more than the left. This is a disaster for higher
movements, especially in lateral work.
4. DRESSAGE & REINING SLIDING
STOPS
If
one shoulder is more forward than the other, the dressage horse will go
crooked, but under the stress of the reining sliding stop, the horse can
go so crooked they are actually injured! For the jumper, it often
means that on of the horse's two front feet will be lower
5. USING BIOFEEDBACK
The rider's
jacket
Biofeedback doesn't have to be thousands of dollars worth of electrical,
digital or heat sensitive devices. Just have a look at the rider's
jacket in front of you at in the warm up stop, the horse can go so crooked
they are
