After several accidents, very serious
hospitalizations and totally losing my nerve, there is one thing I am an
expert on...and that is: being terrified, and finally getting back your
nerve.
The problem is, if you are very scared, you
are often scared before you even get on - and one of the things I remember
thinking was "if the horse would just STAND STILL I could at least get
off". But, they would fidget and fidget and I just couldn't
get off, and got more and more nervous.
So, one afternoon I 'parked' my horse up
against a big long tree log (a rickety milk crate isn't the answer!) and
all afternoon I got on and learned to jump quickly off the other
side. I didn't have any instruction on "how to"...I just
figured it out for myself, and by the end of the very first day I could
jump off a moving horse!
It was ASTOUNDING what it did for my
confidence.
Then, years later I had my first vaulting
lesson (I was in my early 40's - and still carrying injuries) and the one
thing that gave me confidence more than anything else was learning how to
jump off safely.
I had spent 30-some years gripping on with
the fear of death, and now I can jump of a moving horse with confidence AT
MY AGE!
Get in
contact with the EFA & find out what
vaulting is in your area...or...do what I did - start a vaulting club
yourself. The top coaches will visit for clinics and help you - as
they did for me! I knew NOTHING about vaulting, but all the vaulting
groups are the most remarkably friendly and helpful people, and they will
help you get started from scratch.
We built our club, incorporated it,
affiliated with the EFA, got the best coaches to visit us...and we did it
from scratch knowing nothing in the beginning at all!
If
I can go from 'crying like an idiot' and unable to get on -
to now riding some of Australia's worst problem horses - AT MY AGE - you
can do it too.
Help is just an email away - and when it
comes to confidence our team will help you get started for free.
Just make the call! email me on
info@colleenkelly.net and I will help you myself.
