101 Ways to Improve Your Riding:
Seat Posture & Balance

10 Best Tips to Improve the
Rider's Head

 3.     HORSE CROOKED?
Is one earring more FORWARD than the other?

9 and 3 o'clock

On a straight line it is very important that the ears be at 9 and 3 o'clock on a clock-face, and one earring not more forward than the other at say 10 and 4 o'clock.

The slightest turn of the nose where one earring gets in advance of the other will make the horse go crooked, and in advanced work has very grave effects in such movements as tempi changes and keeping the straightness in rein-back or piaffe.

So the big question:

Q. Do you hold one earring in front of the other on a straight line?

Q. When you deliberately hold one earring in front of the other...what does your horse do?

Crookedness of any kind is a disaster for jumping, dressage and performance sports such as racing as it slows the horse down and develops unequal muscles.

It is something you need to remedy very quickly, and this is a quick & easy way to think:  keep your earrings at 9 and 3 o'clock.
